A Poet Side- Sept 08

Honey Bee
Tempted and tormented by the demons in her head
Empty and alone as she wanders from bed to bed
Offering affection to those in desperate need
Hoping in return to find some love on which to feed
Sacrificing sanctity for just one glimmer of acceptance
Hijacking humanity for an ounce of true acquiescence
Holding on to hope the only way she can
Fighting for a chance to make someone give a damn
Solidarity in strangers is not so rare a find
Constructing temples of allegiance in the corners of her mind
Viewed by all as one who lives and breathes just to rebel
Yet all she really wants is to be held

^^^^Female of D Month^^^^^

This section is dedicated to those truly amazing, stylish, powerful, and passionate females who have the resources and connections to really make a difference in this world the way we all wish we could. Each month we will select one incredible woman to feature as our role model.

This Month’s Venus: KATHERINE MOENNIG

This 29-year-old actress has gained the most attention from her role as Shane McCutchen on Showtime’s The L Word. This controversial yet glamorous series features a group of friends who live a, shall we say, not so conservative lifestyle in Los Angeles, California. Katherine appears to be a private person, but is always willing to interact with fans on The L Word’s web site and in many interviews she has done. She really stresses the importance of being true to yourself and on encouraging other people to be open minded. She says one of the positive aspects of playing the role of Shane is that she gets to give a voice to this unique character that people would normally judge and not listen to. “Slowly but surely women are having a stronger and more substantial voice in film and TV, and I think the show will only help propel that.” In this quote taken from an interview on AfterEllen.com, Moennig claims that The L Word will help give a powerful voice to women and those who live an alternative lifestyle. Anyone who has had the privilege of watching this dynamic show will agree. She also works to generate awareness of problems in forgotten communities as evident in her involvement with projects such as Gay Youth Homelessness!, whose purpose is evident by the title.Katherine Moennig is an incredibly sexy, talented and compassionate individual. She teaches us to be proud of who we are and true to ourselves. She also stresses the importance of having an open mind and not judging others based on gender, sexual orientation, or any other discriminatory factor. This amazing femme truly is an epitome of admirable ethics and moral compassion, and a role model for us.
